ABSTRACT In the present study, the RAPD-PCR was used to investigate the genomic DNA of normal and irradiated males and females of the potato tuber moth, Phthorimaea operculella Zeller. Gamma radiation induced some DNA polymorphism in all irradiated males and females (38.6 % and 26.7%, respectively). The similarity coefficients between non-irradiated and irradiated males and females were 0.85 and 0.89, respectively. The male sub-sterilizing dose (200 Gy) and the female sterilizing dose (150 Gy) had similarity coefficients of 0.866 and 0.916 with the non-irradiated males and females, respectively. These results indicated that irradiation of 5-old days Ph. operculella pupae with gamma rays had slight effects on the genomic DNA.
